a changing canada

to me, a few things seem so obvious, but there are voices circulating who counter the rational, and these voices have somehow accumulated the power to be heard repetitiously by a wide audience.

If economic recovery is our governments main focus, why does PM Harper have such an attachment to the american free-market capitalist model.  The imbalance of wealth in the USA is growing steadily, while living conditions for the general population are steadily deteriorating.  Meanwhile, in Denmark, people pay some of the highest taxes around, but pay equity is the highest in the world, and living conditions are almost as good as it gets.  Denmark is at the forefront of environmentally sustainable innovation, and their arts & culture thrive.

To me, this is simple math; harper telling us his focus is the economy and keeping taxes down, while he follows a model proven to fail and create imbalance equates to one simple answer.  Stephen Harper is a liar.

I honestly don’t see how anyone could think otherwise, especially after he went through the entire election campaign without answering any questions from the public, or having his party attend any public forums.

My other beef comes in at his allegations that publicly funded election campaigns are a waste of tax dollars, yet in his platform, he outlines the importance of government transparency and accountability.  To me, this also seems like another obvious lie, and again I am completely baffled at how anyone could think that a government funded by corporate money would be more transparent to the people, than one funded by their own.  A parliamentary body, much like a wise horse, won’t bite the hand that feeds it.  Why would we, the public, want to let a smaller body of wealth take the reins from us?

These things, to me, seem like obvious reasons to vote against the Harper conservatives, yet somehow, their vote increased.  Including the apathetic “government is doing fine” non-vote, I think over half of Canada chose to elect him into his now majority government.

So after how simple the conclusion of “Harper is a bad guy” came to me, I guess I’m just surprised to learn that we Canadians are in fact as ignorant as our southern neighbors.  I guess we deserve whatever ill fate befalls us, because clearly, we don’t actually care at all.

About jefrab

hahaha. I'm just a funny guy who sits at home on my computer a lot, and dj's a bit, and makes music sometimes, and tries to teach himself how to use complicated software of all types. I'm a hippy from an island of 800, who grew up without a radio or flush toilet, but who has somehow managed to make his way around the world, and learn the difference between chinos and khakis...
