you know, so much digital-cumbia comes out these days, and so much of it is so crap.  The genre is an extremely prime example of the negative elements of internet; aside from the fact that there are so many net-labels trying to put out some next big thing, you don’t even need anybodies approval to post things up on soundcloud, and get blogged about on globalbassghettomoombahblog or something.  Any jack john or jimmy (or juan) can post whatever poorly mixed, half-hatched track he wants, and it can easily stumble it’s way in between me and something that I might actually like.  Enough of them, and I’m almost ready to stop looking.

HOWEVER… the reason that this happens, is because people are looking…because for every 100 or more dickholes with a sampler or a crack FL, there’s an artist like chancha via circuito or thornato or whoever else makes something so fresh, with so much style…it’s, like, NO WONDER EVERYBODY WANTS IN ON THIS!!!!

Anyways, a possible spearhead of this, to me, is GB’s sexxy saturday cumbia…I have heard so much shit there, but I go back every week, first thing saturday, because every now and then something pops out that’s just like, “GRAB!” on my ear.

This week one of those came up…

The group is called “sonido desconocido ii” from mexico, and I immediately followed them on facebook, youtube, and soundcloud.  They are so great because they mix up all the digi-digi 8-bit stuff without going deep into the cheese, and they slow it down and make it deep without taking away a dance groove.  I really hope these two keep at it, because i feel like they could come out with some brilliant stuff.

I check out the link to their home page, and it doesn’t have much (other than a wickedawesome logo), so I wrote them to see when an album is gonna drop, and I hope they write back and say “free ep on konna tomorrow.  want to make an official remix?”

Here’s a video:

About jefrab

hahaha. I'm just a funny guy who sits at home on my computer a lot, and dj's a bit, and makes music sometimes, and tries to teach himself how to use complicated software of all types. I'm a hippy from an island of 800, who grew up without a radio or flush toilet, but who has somehow managed to make his way around the world, and learn the difference between chinos and khakis...
